Glossary of physical education: general vocabulary and handball



To chase: to follow or run after (a person, animal, or goal) persistently or quickly

Lob shot: to shoot the ball in a high arc

To roll down: spin down

To slow down: decreases the speed


To tag: a children's game in which one player chases the others in an attempt to catch one of them who will then become the chaser

To cheat: not fair

Urgent: requiring or compelling speedy action

Save: the act of saving a goal

Wall bars: a structure or rampart built to protect and surround a position or place for defensive purposes

Target: objective

Line up: a row or arrangement of people or things assembled for a particular purpose

Brief: short duration

Fit: to be healthy

Feint: movement designed to distract an adversary

Baseline: a measured line through a survey area from which triangulations are made

Imbalance: lack of equilibrium

Referee: the person who controls the match
